New-YWTB-Thumb-artworkWelcome to Youth Work Toolbox.

My intention in creating this site is to give people who currently work with young people and those who have a desire to work with young people, a practical and user friendly guide to planning and delivering high quality youth provision.

Youthworktoolbox.com is not an academic site and I will not make any major references to youth work theory. That is not what this site is for. It is an on site guide, full of useful advice and guidance which have all been tested and proven to be effective.

Now please do not misunderstand me, I believe there is a place for academia and theory within youth work, however, the focus of this book is strictly about the practice of youth work.

The reason I have launch Youthworktoolbox.com is because I love working with young people and I have a desire for improving youth work provision. However, I am frequently disappointed at the low standard of provision offered to young people, by so-called professionals.

I have to ask myself the question, is it because they don’t know better or is it because they don’t care? Is it that the young people have never been exposed to a high standard of youth work, and just except what is on offer? Who knows? But what I do know is that I can not sit around much longer and turn a blind eye to it.

I want to give people access to a variety of practical resources created to enable them to develop provision that is inspiring, interactive and engaging. I want to equip the next generation of youth workers to go beyond average and become outstanding. Not only for the benefit of the worker but predominantly for the young people they work with.

I believe that young people deserve better as they are the future, and if we only show them average they will only aspire to average or look elsewhere for a more inspiring experience.

As you read through my blog and listen to the podcasts you will hear me talk about my experience of youth provision growing up.

From making clay ashtrays for my mom on the Playbus, to building rope-swings and raised platforms at the adventure playground, to then being introduced to DJ’ing and Music production in the youth centre.

My life is full of wonderful experiences gained via good (but not always great) youth provision. And many of these experiences have given me a range of skills which I have been able to further develop and draw on in many areas of my life.

As I have benefited personally from participating in good quality youth provision, my goal is to ensure that services for young people continue to improve, and I hope that through this outlet I can contribute to that.

So have a look around the site. There are lots of tools which I am sure you will find very useful. These will be added to on a regular basis. I also recommend that you listen to the podcasts, which I will aim to update at least one a month.

If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you, so please us the contact page and get in touch with me.

Thank you.
